01 The Moon – close up with large telescope (HQ)

Some close up shots of the Moon from my back yard in Terrace, B.C. Canada.

Seeing conditions were below average. Transparency was poor with some thin high cloud. 12.5″ Newt/Dob f/4.8 (30mm e.p. filmed with a Canon ZR-80)

Still, it was nice to finally get the scope out. Viewing from the eyepiece is always better than my camera will show.

Did you see the happy face?

Big impacts will often cause a central peak in the centre, like in this crater (petavius). The line (rima petavius) is a lava tube that has collapsed.

    Maybe so, but its …
Maybe so, but its highly suspicious that humans have 3 orbiters around the moon and pretty much zero useful, sub 30m images.

Hopefully LRO will deliver the promised 1m resolutions but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you.

John is not all there, if you know what I mean? I find his stuff way over magnified and distorted. His scope is made for photography, this scope is not.

    Very impressive

Somewhat of a mystery how he does it.

Thanks trav. Yes the light pollution is bad in my town, the seeing and transparency was also below average. We get one or 2 days a year of clear steady skies. Maybe one day I will be able to show what this scope can do on a good night?

    Great video!
Do you have no light pollution or something where you live, or atmosphere for that matter, because that is very, very clear.
