should I get a reflector or a refractor telescope?
this will be my first telescope.
Thankyou so much for your responses! The telescope is going to be my 18th birthday present ![]()
I suggest you join an astronomy club or at least go to a couple star party’s and see what you like. Most clubs have loaner Telescopes you can take home once trained. Here is a link to clubs-

A good telescope for dso’s(deep space objects) is the reflector type and the easiest to use and set up is a dob,(Dobsonian mount). To get a telescope that will give you views of Galaxy’s,nebula, clusters and such you will need at least 6" aperture.
This is a good place to do some window shopping-

I have 2 of their telescopes a Starblast 6 and an XT 10-I love them both.
Thy really stand behind their products.
Stay away from e-bay and department store telescopes.

Any suggested accessories for a 90 mm refractor telescope?
I have a 90 mm meade DS2090 refractor and about 60 dollars to spend. Does anyone know good accessories?
would anyone suggest a color filter set with red, green, yellow, and blue?
The accessories I usually recommend are, in order of priority:
1) Red flashlight (Rigel)
2) Book: Terence Dickinson: NightWatch (Firefly)
3) Star atlas: Sky & Telescope Pocket Sky Atlas (Sky)
4) Binoculars (Orion Scenix 10×50)
5) Barlow lens (Orion Shorty Plus 2x)
Can a refractor telescope using three lenses be constructed.?
like i have an achromatic lens of 2" dia and a focal ratio f/10 and another spare singlet of 6" focal length along with a great eyepiece….i constructed a simple scope using the first lens and the eyepiece… is it possible to add another lens in the middle,or make another Telescope using 3 lenses ..?? any changes in the FOV and magnification of the scope,if built…?? any links and support will be helpful..
The spacing of the lenses and the material they are made of ( flint, crown ) is critical to the elimination of aberration. You can find surplus achromat lenses to make scopes from at Edmunds for a good price
