'good' and 'affordable' are both relative terms, but you might give Edmuns Scientific a try, they are having holiday sales, are reputable, and i never got any duds from them. Once you look there, you may totally luck out and find one you get the specs for on ebay.

You should buy it used. Check out the classifieds on http://www.astromart.com
Here are some pointers for choosing a good telescope.
1. The more aperture, the more you can see. Get nothing less than 4.5" at the smallest, preferably nothing less than 6" if you can, and most definatly nothing less than 8" if you want to delve into some serious viewing.
2. The telescope MUST have a sturdy mount. Nothing plastic. If it's an equatorial mount make sure it's a die cast German Equatorial mount, such as a Vixen Polaris or one of similar quality. A lot of older starter Celestrons came on these and they are far superior to what Celestron now puts beginner scopes on.
3. If you insist on buying a refractor, which I don't recommend for your primary telescope, make sure it's an apochromatic…these are expensive.
4. You should really just by a reflector such as a Newtonian or Dobsonian or a catadioptric like a Schmidt Cassegrain.
5. DO buy a good eyepiece in the 25mm-32mm range, the 6-12.5mm range and a good quality 2x barlow. Quality is especially important with the barlow.
7. Avoid the department store Bushnell, Tasco, Galileo, and Celestron telescopes. Celestron is a good brand, just stay away from the cheap, less than $200 stuff.
8. Good brands are Meade, Celestron, and Orion generally.
